History
AIDS Calgary Awareness Association aims to reduce the harm associated with HIV and AIDS for all individuals and communities in the Calgary region. In addition to providing HIV prevention, education, and support, AIDS Calgary advocates on behalf of people living with HIV and aims to enhance their quality of life. The organization collects and distributes information about AIDS and its prevention through community outreach programs and provides those affected by the disease with a range of support services. AIDS Calgary also promotes awareness and understanding of HIV issues by working with partners in the community to create a caring and compassionate society in the face of HIV and AIDS.

Events
AIDS Calgary keeps public awareness at the forefront year-round with a variety of events. Each year it hosts Calgary Cares, an event featuring theatre, music, dance and special guests. The event is different each year, with various themes and new events. The Spring for Life campaign in March raises awareness and funds through the sale of mini gerbera daisy bunches. In September, AIDS Calgary hosts the Calgary version of the national AIDS walk. The Walk for Life has taken place since 1994 and each year raises more money and has more walkers.

Support
AIDS Calgary is a non-profit organization and relies on donations and volunteers. In 2006, staff and volunteers reached over 27,000 people and contributed almost 29,000 hours of their time towards HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention. AIDS Calgary invites all volunteers to participate in fundraising or to donate time at workshops.
