Aldo Shoes was established in 1972, by Aldo Bensadoun. A native of France, Bensadoun decided to make a home in Montreal after visiting the city while studying in New York. Aldo began operations with four stores located in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa and Winnipeg. The franchise was an instant success. Over the course of the 1980s and 1990s, Aldo retailers expanded their activities throughout Canada and the United States, opening up approximately 100 stores south of the border.
