You won't find characters like Pillsbury and Duncan hangin' round the flour bins, just good ol'-fashioned bakin' in these ovens.

As the pre-millennial hype has prompted us to reflect, North American culture has evolved rapidly in the past 100 years. Some changes, like the invention of peanut butter cups, have been good. Others, like the decline of baking skill in the general population, have not boded as well for our palates. Fortunately for all of us, who equate the words Duncan Hines and Pillsbury with baking from scratch, there are still a few nooks in Calgary where the products of traditional European baking are to be found.
The Food
Amandine is one of those places. Flaky croissants, hearty raspberry linzer, elegant Florentines, freshly baked bread, and killer butter tarts are just some of the treats you'll find here. The bakery's biggest claim to fame is its fancy cakes that can be made to order for any occasion, from Martha-inspired weddings to Barney-inspired birthdays. Lunch-wise, it offers stuffed foccaccia and brioche, and catering to boot. Stop in for your next picnic brunch on the Island.
