Mention hockey or curling in Banff and you might get some strange looks from tourists who visit the park and this small town for its skiing, hiking and soaking in the hot springs. But remember, we are in Canada, and this is also an active and fun community. This recreation centre is a hub for the town and anyone who loves the sports of hockey and curling.
Is that a broom in your hand?
The recreation centre is home to curling and hockey in Banff. The facility houses a full size hockey surface and a smaller shinny and skating rink. There's also a concession if you need to fatten up. Stone throwers can break out the brooms at the four-sheet curling facility, which also has a lounge. For larger tournaments and bonspiels, the smaller ice surface can be converted into an additional two sheets of curling ice. From July to August, the centre hosts a summer hockey school with weekly camps running from Sunday to Saturday.
Lots to do
You can bring the family for a skate, score a goal in one of the Hockey Leagues or sign up for some lessons. When the weather is warmer you can visit the adjacent Banff Skateboarding Park, with over 25,000 feet of skate terrain. They town of Banff is also looking at re-developing this centre and adding a leisure pool, a fitness facility and another arena. So look for new fun areas in the near future.
