The BBQ Scene
When it comes to barbecuing, there’s a distinct difference between the cooking ritual we Canadians enjoy on our back deck in the summer, and the celebrated cultural event that is “the BBQ” in the Southern United States. Specifically, we grill things… they smoke them. We apply store-bought BBQ sauce… they baste their meats in perfectly seasoned homemade sauces – secret family recipes that have been around for a hundred years. Lucky for us Calgarians, we don’t have to go south to experience the true Southern BBQ; Big T’s serves it up right here in our city, year round.
Big T’s Menu
There’s no other way to describe it – this is a meat-lovers dream come true. Painstakingly smoked, or ‘slow-smoked’, as the experts call it, Big T’s invites you to experience BBQ as you’ve never had it before (this side of the border!). Take your hat off and set yourself down to one big tasty platter of beans, coleslaw and plenty of meat – be it ribs, brisket, chicken, pulled pork or sausage. If you’re into sharing, bring several of your closest friends and try the Elvis Platter… you won’t be disappointed!

If you recall seeing multiple Big T’s outlets, you aren’t mistaken; at one time Calgary had three locations. Today, the only remaining location is on Crowchild Trail, across from McMahon Stadium. This is great for the locals, for football fans, and for Southern BBQ fans, who seem to travel from all corners of the city to partake in this scrumptious meat feast.
