All Collars Are Welcome
This dance company ensures that dance theatre is not just a pastime that the wealthy patrons of the arts have access to. They believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the enriching experience that dance can bring to a life, and as such they create and develop performances that are accessible to everyone. Since their founding in 1996, the Blue Collar Dance Company has worked hard to enrich the lives and add to the diverse culture that makes up this city. Community Involvement
The Blue Collar Dance Company is located in the Community Arts Centre in the old Currie Barracks. The dance studio is available for rent with special rates for non-profit organizations. As part of their commitment to the community, they raise money through their performances for donation to charities such as the Alberta Cancer Society. They also offer a school residencies program that is available to students of all ages, where confidence and self-esteem building is emphasized. These programs incorporate all aspects of dance theatre and regular core curriculum. Yearly memberships are available for only $25 and include the opportunity to apply for the Resident Artist Program, access to a digital HD Video Camera, access to an online community, newsletter and consultations within the Dance Resource Centre.
