Although it’s better known for its summer activities, Bowness Park is a winter refuge for people looking for a laidback way to enjoy the outdoors in winter. You can cross-country ski through the trees while enjoying the rolling terrain beside the lagoon. When the lagoon is frozen, you can glide across the ice and skate to your heart’s content and if you want to enjoy a roaring fire, the east pavilion is available for booking. If you need to rent skates, there are rentals available at the park. You can even just enjoy a relaxing stroll through the snow on the extensive network of pathways. There’s lots of nature to see including chickadees and Steller’s jays and if you’re lucky, perhaps a deer or two will wander across your path.
If you need to warm up with a soothing mug of hot chocolate or a steaming latte or cappuccino, the Lagoon Café and Cappuccino Bar is located close to the park so you can slide out of your bundled outerwear and relax while warming up with your steaming mug. There are some house specialty drinks like the Sunset on the Lagoon that is a delicious treat and rich macadamia nut espresso to tempt your taste buds. They’ve also got light lunches and baked goods so you can restore your energy while thawing out and watching people skate on the lagoon.
