Calgary is an excellent city to experience a variety of sporting events including the Calgary Hitmen. They are a junior ice hockey team, established in 1995 participate in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The WHL (or also referred to as the dub) is one of the three Junior Hockey Tier I leagues with 21 teams divided into two conferences, which are all part of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). So what’s a Hitmen? The WHL team is named after Calgary’s infamous wrestler and original part owner of the team – Bret “The Hitmen” Hart. Originally there were 18 owners who dedicated their time and money towards re-establishing a junior league team for all Calgarians to enjoy.
All about hockey
In the 1998 President’s Cup game, the Hitmen proudly won the championship game, after four years of being in the league. The team offers hockey fans the opportunity to watch a good old game of hockey at affordable prices on the same ice rink the Calgary Flames play on. So what are you waiting for? Head down to “the Dome” and cheer on your local Calgary Hitmen!
Hitmen in the community
The Hitmen define the true Calgary spirit in their efforts to give back to the community and recognize their fan’s support. Last year the Hitmen dedicated more than 300 hours to a variety of charities such as the Literacy for Life Reading Programs and Food for Thought Floor Hockey. In addition to all of this generosity, the team also donates tickets and memorabilia to over 150 community events each and every month.
