Calgary Opera took over the historic Wesley United Church in 2005 to create the Calgary Opera Centre and set a new standard in theatre quality and artistic innovation. The Calgary Opera Centre boasts 29,000 square-feet of space, offering administration offices, workshop and educational programs, rehearsal halls, and a performance venue. Calgary Opera’s grand productions take flight at the Jubilee Auditorium.
The cast is ready
Calgary Opera showcases some of the genre’s finest talents, featuring nationally and internationally acclaimed soloists along with the Calgary Opera Chorus. Past performances include such renowned artists as Kathleen Battle, Cecilia Bartoli and soprano extraordinaire, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, as well as one of the most celebrated vocal stars of the times, soprano Renée Fleming.
The performances are a must see
Each season, Calgary Opera presents three main stage productions and a series of smaller opera events that entice and entertain Calgary audiences in a number of other venues. On a smaller scale, Calgary Opera offers a series called, “A Taste of Opera”, held at the Calgary Opera Centre, and hosts Sunday Opera Brunches. All performances celebrate the themes of the main stage productions, and each promises to engage, thrill and delight a broad variety of spectators.
