For more than 23 years the CSIF has served Calgary's independent film community as an arts-based, non-profit society for filmmaking, offering production resources, exhibition venues, distribution information, volunteer opportunities, and workshops. The CSIF also acts as a networking base and community center for the independent filmmaking community and as a vehicle to increase public awareness of their work.
The digs
The CSIF is located in a large space at the old Currie Barracks, and is equipped with three full service edit suites, an on-site theatre, on-site film workshops and more to members and the budding Calgary film community. The barracks houses a cross section of organizations and companies in the film industry and the CSIF is the latest addition.
Workshops for professionals
The CSIF also hosts a variety of workshops for people in the industry, or who want to get into the industry. They have screen writing, lighting, directing, sound editing, special effects make-up, and transferring to Super 8. Membership has its advantages here – you get workshop discounts as well as many other discounts at local shops in the film business.
Details
Take Note: They also run the annual $100 Film Festival; such a small budget breeds creativity.
