CYPT provides diverse programming for children and young adults. They welcome a range of enthusiasts from novice drama explorers to advanced performers who are serious about stepping-up their acting skills. The club also offer professional development workshops for educators who are keen to implement drama and creative arts in the classroom setting.
Roots & Philosophy
Founded as a non-profit, charitable society in 1992, CYPT has flourished and diversified since its inception. What hasn’t change is the society’s fundamental philosophy that drama and the arts enhance self-esteem, build character and enrich the imagination of young people. Simply put - kids benefit from creative development, hence the society’s mantra: Act, Play, Learn, Grow.
On the Program
CYPT works with several hundred young actors annually in Calgary. Productions the Society has offered in the past include such classics as Jungle Book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Sleeping Beauty and Hamlet. With the support of such major sponsors as the Calgary Public Library, CIBC / Wood Gundy and Hopewell Residential Communities, the Society has staged major productions at various Calgary venues including: Fort Calgary, University Theatre, the Uptown Theatre and Heritage Park's Canmore Opera House. Since 2004, most CYPT performances have taken place at the Vertigo Studio Theatre.
