This Taiwanese inspired bubble-tea hangout is a popular choice amongst Calgarians of any culture. Since 1997, The Dessert House has been known for its fruit juices, made only with fresh seasonal produce. The options are extensive. Look for exotic specials such as kiwi, persimmon, guava, papaya, durian, as well as perennial favourites like strawberry, watermelon, mango, pineapple and cantaloupe. Juices can also be mixed together to create new combinations. In addition to fresh fruit juices, The Dessert House offers hot or cold milk teas (i.e.: almond, black sesame, etc.) and other mixed, non-alcoholic beverages. However, no drink is complete without the addition of freshly made pearls (soft, chewy, marble-sized tapioca balls), also known as bubbles, for which bubble-tea is named. For a less chewy, fruit flavoured alternative, add rectangular strips of fruit flavoured jelly to your drink.
Chinese desserts
The Dessert House offers traditional Chinese desserts that rely heavily on texture and subtle flavours. For authentic and traditional favourites, consider the stewed egg whites with fresh milk, glutinous rice, tapioca, grass jelly, or mung bean slush.
Hot eats, too
If you’re hungry, The Dessert House also serves hot food inspired by Hong Kong cafes. Signature snacks include: duck tongue in chili spicy sauce and steamed rice sheet rolls. You’ll also find fish balls, squid feelers, tripe, noodle soup, house-made curry and satay sauces and much much more. With a casual ambiance, quick service and endless food and drink options, the only thing left to do is to make up your mind.
