The big picture
Okotoks is becoming somewhat of a fashion hub, as stores like Ginger Laurier take up residence in the small town and draw out fashionistas by the dozens. Founded by local businesswoman Donita Beaulieu, the exquisite women’s boutique sprouted out of Beaulieu’s small footwear business, in which she supplied friends and family with Birkenstocks out of her home. Twenty years later, the market was right for Beaulieu to set up shop in the Okotoks’ business district, and when she did (in 2003) she added clothing and accessories to go with the shoes. Today, Ginger Laurier has a following that spans the scope of the province, and the store has expanded in size and merchandise. Ginger Laurier was named after ‘Ginger’, Beaulieu’s cat, and Laurier, the street where she once resided.
