Halo does business in a handsome free-standing building that has a high “wow” quotient when you first see it. It is big and blue, with lots of windows, railings, balconies and chimneys. Stepping inside, you are immediately impressed with the classiness of the place. The atmosphere is casual, yet elegant, appointed with contemporary dark furnishings and a cobblestone fireplace. A large bar is set just past the entrance, with rich dark wood, pleasant lighting, and comfortable stools for the patrons. The restaurant will accommodate about 180 patrons, more when clement weather opens the patio spaces.
Blending the Heavenly With Some Devilment
Appetizers include dry ribs, seafood stuffed mushrooms, steak tartar, calamari, a pot of mussels, oysters, chile prawns, and others, as might be expected in a steak and seafood specialty house. Taking a clue from the restaurant’s logo, the menu reflects a mixture of the angel/ devil theme. Entrées have names like Heavenly Halibut Tarragon, Blessed Basa Almandine, Miracle Mediterranean Salmon, Naughty New York Sirloin, and Righteous Rib Eye Steak. This is definitely an upscale restaurant that features steak and seafood. Prime rib is a specialty.
Stairway to Heaven?
The lounge is upstairs, reached by a wide, dark wood staircase in the centre of the building. It is also nicely appointed, and features a large fireplace, large-screen televisions, and its own patio area outside on an upper deck. The wine list is expansive. Private parties can be accommodated.
