Lawn Bowling in Nutshell
Lawn Bowling, also known as “Bowls”, has a history that dates back to the 13th century. The game is played on a rectangular, level, manicured expanse of grass, which is subdivided into parallel strips called “rinks”. From one end of a rink, a player rolls a small white ball – the “jack” (also known as the “kitty” or “sweetie”), along the rink’s length, attempting to position it in the centre of the strip. Players then take turns rolling asymmetrically shaped and weighted balls down the rink, endeavoring to have their bowls come to rest as close to the jack as possible. A point ( or “shot”) is scored for every one of a player’s bowls that is closer to the jack than any of his opponent’s bowls. After each player has played all of his bowls, the turn (“end”) is completed, and the process is then repeated. A game usually consists of 21 ends, the winner being the one garnering the greatest number of shots.

Bowling At Inglewood
Inglewood has eight rinks on its well-maintained green. Leagues are organized for a couple of weekday evenings, where organized teams play against each other, keeping track of their standings. On two nights each week, the Inglewood Club has drop-in evening, where the members and guests who are present are paired into teams for the evening’s play. These are more social gatherings than competitive events, so guests and new-comers are welcome to join in.

Volunteer-Run
The Inglewood Club has over a hundred members, and volunteers from their ranks operate and maintain the premises. Please respect their hard work and effort when using the green.
