What’s in a name?
The Iron Goat Pub & Grill derived its name from Canmore’s historical mining and railway era. Before the days of planes, trains and automobiles, goats were domesticated for the purpose of working in mines. These small but powerful animals hauled very heavy carts, saving men hours of strenuous work. Within time, locomotives, known as the “Iron Horse” came to replace the work of the animal. But miners gave the locomotive their own name, that being “Iron Goat”. And so, the Iron Goat became an important part of Canmore’s mining heritage. The Iron Goat Pub & Grill was named as such to commemorate and celebrate those of the past.
