Indian with a Twist
Karma opened its doors in 2007, and has been offering modern Indian cuisine to eager Calgarians since then. In fact, Karma won the Calgary Herald Reader’s Choice award in the Indian restaurant category. It combines the rich spices and flavours of India in new and different ways, and it may just change how you think about Indian cuisine.

Tastefully Contemporary
One thing that you’ll immediately notice about Karma is the tasteful, contemporary décor that combines touches of India in its decoration and colour palette. The space is relaxed but still has an elegance to it. It’s a great environment to sample Karma’s new twists on Indian food. One of the major versions on Karma’s menu are the hakka style dishes. Hakka dishes were developed by Chinese cooks who lived in India, and they combine both cuisines for a unique fusion. You can try the chili chicken, which combines Chinese-style marinating with Indian spicing, or the interesting chili paneer, which combines Indian cheese with garlic and a Chinese-inspired sweet and sour sauce.

Tandoori Treats
If you’re looking for something that’s a bit closer to Indian tradition, sample one of the dishes from Karma’s tandoor. A tandoor is a clay oven that reaches blazing temperatures and creates food that is moist, tender and low in fat because there is no need for oil. The tandoori chicken is rich and spiced for a taste sensation. Also from the tandoor comes juicy seekh kebabs.

Vegetarian Options
If you’re a vegetarian, or just looking for a lighter option, there are many vegetarian dishes to choose from. The malai kofta are vegetable balls made from potatoes and various other vegetables served in a tomato and cream sauce. There’s also the palak paneer, which combines the Indian cheese with rich spices and spinach.
