Karma bills itself as, “Calgary’s cool little eclectic lounge,” and they live up to the name with a funky little space that’s neatly decorated and has a cool indie vibe that continues through the music choices, the original menu and the people who hang out there. Although the music is the focus of Karma, they don’t disappoint with their menu either. Karma’s a great location for music lovers who also enjoy good food.
Musical Magic
Karma divides the week up with all kinds of different bands and musicians. On Tuesdays, its world beat with Youssou Seck, a Malian-Canadian musician with a Juno award to his name. On Wednesdays, it’s an open mic evening where anyone can go to share their music for free. If you are voted the best on Wednesday, on Thursday they invite you back for a paid gig. On Fridays and Saturdays, Karma features headlining bands for a whole variety of great music. You can hear the best local Canadian talent and support the music scene in Calgary.
Flavourful Fare
Of course, there’s also the food at Karma. It serves simple, pub-style food, but dishes are executed well, with rich flavours and a variety of different options that will keep your stomach happy. They offer mussels in a variety of different flavours, nachos piled high with toppings, cheesy quesadillas with tasty salsas and bruschetta. They also have a selection of different gourmet pizzas to enjoy, and rotate through a variety of different specials each month.
