Elegant and classic best describe this popular midtown Thai restaurant. The King and I has charmed Calgarians’ palates since 1988. Though it is one of the oldest Thai restaurants in town, soft lighting, bamboo accents and classy blond wood give the restaurant a modern look. The restaurant has won numerous local awards for best Thai food in Calgary.
A Culinary Romance
If you’ve never had the pleasure of Thai food before, the King and I is an excellent place to begin. The mélange of sweet, spicy, hot and sour flavours make each dish an adventure. With one of the longest Thai menus in the city, it can take a while to pick through all the delicious-sounding items.
A Spicy and Unique Menu
Appetizers include Thai spring rolls, coconut prawns and beef or chicken satays. A regional sampling of curries features classics like Matsaman Nuea, beef and potatoes stewed tender in a medium spicy curry flavoured with coconut milk. There are also rarely-seen choices like lobster or duck curry. There are also vegetarian choices.
An Adventurous Night Out
Out with four or more friends? Consider choosing the “King’s Feast.” This is designed for parties of four or more. The chef will select a variety of foods, including three appetizers per person, one main dish per person and rice. For a lighter meal, consider exploring their vast menu at lunchtime, where a number of special combos are available. Catering and private banquet rooms are available.
