Playing for Keeps
A stylish shop dedicated to nostalgic collector toys and quirky novelty items alike, Livingstone & Cavell Extraordinary Toys engages the imagination and delights your inner child, offering the toys you always wish you had. Toy soldiers, electric trains and steam-powered engines are among the European imports that hearken back to a bygone era of durable items made with real stuff. Wood, metal and plastic are all used in the construction of these treasures. They also sell more tin wind-up toys than anybody else in Canada. Grandparents can find that special distinctive item that children will cherish. A favourite aunt can find another piece for a Thomas the Tank Engine set. Young adults can instantly recognize the sentimental value of a well-crafted hand buzzer, potato gun or whoopee cushion.

Brand Name Legends
Both serious collectors and casual shoppers are delighted by Livingstone & Cavell Extraordinary Toys. The colourful history of the British Empire is reflected in the hand-painted, highly detailed, cast metal soldiers. These are made by William Britain. Märklin trains, with the first soldiers built in the mid-1800’s. Those little guys continue to be the world leader in model railroading. Wilesco and Mamode model steam engines are meticulous replicas of the machines that powered the industrial revolution. The modern era is hardly forgotten, however, with many handcrafted dolls, tricycles, musical instruments and puppets filling the aisles.

A Museum Mindset
Edward Cavell and Donna Livingstone opened their store in 1992 and have maintained one of Calgary's most unique retail treasures ever since, while also shipping items across the country and overseas. The business is an extension of the couple's shared enthusiasm for unique, well-designed, singular toys. They bring the passion of curators to the business of selling toys of distinction.
