Canada's oldest continuously running noon-time theatre has been entertaining patrons since the early 1970s. Situated in a shopping and office complex in the heart of downtown Calgary, Lunchbox Theatre presents 50-minute shows tailored to bring a little levity to the thousands of office workers trying to beat the daily doldrums. You can grab a bite at the nearby food courts, bring your own brown bag - whatever the case, you're welcome to eat in your seat while enjoying the show.
What's On
The fare on stage is suitably light—primarily comedies—but that doesn't mean Lunchbox isn't ambitious. Since 1988, the company has been in the business of developing and premiering new Canadian one-act plays, and has boasted considerable success. Lunchbox originals such as “Dads in Bondage” and “The Wild Guys” have gone on to be booked for countless production dates across Canada, the United States and even Great Britain. And every season, the company hosts The Stage One Plays: a collection of fresh one-act plays penned by Canadian playwrights spanning a variety of genres including docu-dramas, revues and musicals.
Be Involved
If you want to help out, Lunchbos Theatre is always looking for volunteers to help out with a few shifts or more each month. Plus, there are perks! You get to see the plays for free. If you plan to stage a special event and would like to invite ten or more friends to the Theatre, book ahead and they’ll have lunches ready for you when you arrive.
