Retro to the Max
Marv’s is set in an old theatre building that was first used by the present proprietor to house an antique store. Over time an old fashioned candy shop was added, featuring a large variety of candies and confectionaries from the 50’s like Beemans and Black Jack gum, Smith Brothers Cough Drops, Whore Hound Twist, MacIntosh’s toffee, and stick candy. Next came the ice cream parlour/soda fountain décor, complete with cigar store Indian carving, working antique diner accessories like a jukebox, swivel stools at the counter, a milkshake mixer, and oldies tunes, often played and sung by the owner. Welcome to Happy Days.

Sodas, Floats, Ice Cream Sundaes, and Banana Splits
The soda fountain here is the real deal, dispensing all kinds of ice cream related treats to patrons. You can get cones, milkshakes, sundaes, floats, banana splits, ice cream sodas, and other things, just like bygone years. Flavours include vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, orange, root beer, lemon, lime, grape, cherry, pineapple, banana lime cream de menthe, blue raspberry, rum and butter, and sarsaparilla. Lots of the confections have names like Canary Island, Black & White, and Black Cow, so check for ingredients when ordering.

Burgers and Dogs Also Available
In addition to ice cream and soda items, Marv’s serves up lots of burgers, hot dogs, and fries. They are all featured on the luncheonette menu, and many of the items have names such as James Dean burger, Big Bopper, Bopper Whopper, McGoo, Marilyn Monroe, and La Bamba. One of the funnier items might be completely unfamiliar to patrons who do not have grey hair – the Twiggy is a bunless burger with Caesar salad, tomato, mustard, onions, and pickle. It is all good fun, the delivery is crisp, the offerings are good, and you might even get an Elvis song sung by the fellow with the mustache.
