Centuries ago, Portuguese explorers established the spice route to the orient and in the bargain discovered the African birds-eye chili pepper, also known as peri-peri. This spice is the basis for the sauces used in the preparation of the chicken dishes at Nando’s. Coincidentally, in addition to being a hot and tasty spice, peri-peri is touted as a cornucopia of health benefits, including being a source of vitamins A and C, folic acid, potassium and other minerals, a decongestant, a blood thinner, and a trigger for the release of endorphins to lift one’s spirit.
Menu Choices Extensive
Chicken is the game at Nando’s. It is marinated in peri-peri sauce and then flame grilled, not deep-fried. Chicken is sold by the quarter and the half, by the legs, wings and as kebabs. Each meal is prepared to order in reference to its spiciness, from mild lemon and herb, to medium peri-peri, to hot peri-peri, to extra hot peri-peri. A variety of side dishes and salads are available, as is a vegetarian meal. For larger groups, there are several choices in variety packs, which include a combination of chicken and side orders. And if you want to take home some peri-peri sauce, that is available for purchase too.
Locally Owned And Operated
Nando’s is located on 32nd Avenue NE and is a locally owned franchise operation of a global chain that started in South Africa. Meal orders are taken at the front counter, and meals are delivered to the table when ready.
