Open since 1993, Puspa Restaurant is located in a tiny strip mall northwest Calgary. This Indian restaurant has just 30 seats, so reservations are recommended. Puspa offers Bengali-style Indian food. It won an award for Where Calgary’s Memorable Meal/Best Food category in 1997. Puspa offers lunch items such as mixed vegetable, chicken curry, lamb curry and beef curry. These are all served with soup, salad, rice, dessert and coffee. For appetizers, try Puspa’s cucumber raita or onion salad. In addition, there are samosas, vegetable pakoras, and pappdums. Puspa offers soups like multigatawani soup and dhal soup. Breads include paratha, tandoori roti, chapati and naan.
Dinner and Specials
Puspa also serves dinner specials like vegetarian dinners for two or four, as well as à la carte items. Fresh from its tandoor, Puspa tempts diners with chicken tandoori and lamb kebab. Puspa’s seafood offerings feature shrimp prominently. They include shrimp curry, bhoona shrimp and shrimp pasanda. For chicken dishes, try Puspa’s Kashmiri chicken curry, chicken vindaloo and butter chicken. Puspa’s lamb dishes include lamb dupiaza, lamb pasanda, and lamb korma. Puspa’s beef dishes are extensive. Diners can enjoy beef korma, rogan josh, bhoona ghosth and beef vindaloo. Vegetarians will also find many suitable dishes at Puspa. These include mixed vegetable bhaji, mixed vegetable curry, and aloo peas. Also try their motor paneer, cauliflower bhaji and tarka dhal. Biryani lovers can delight in Puspa’s chicken, lamb, shrimp or vegetable biryani. Several of the rice dishes available are palao rice and peas palao.
Sweets to a “Tea”
Finish off your meal with one of Puspa’s desserts, like mangoes or kulfi borof (homemade ice cream) and a cup of mossola cha (spiced tea). Puspa offers both take-out and delivery service. They are also available for celebrations like Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Valentines Day (including Sundays). Diners can call to reserve a table. Puspa can also easily pre-arrange any special needs, cakes, flowers or gift certificates. Pre-arranged dinner or lunch can be organized as well.
