The Railway Deli has patés, cheeses, soups, cold cuts, condiments, house-made breads, and all the other things you would expect in a fully-stocked deli. It also has a wonderful array of home-made meat pies to satisfy all palates. Choose from French tourtiere, buffalo venison pie, shepherd’s pie, chicken pot pie, roast beef pie, butcher’s blend quiche, curry vegetable pie, and others. Special order sandwiches are also attended to promptly.
The Restaurant Is Next Door
Next door to the Railway Deli, the restaurant has the look of an alpine chalet. It is small, seating just over 30, and operates in a cafeteria style. Grab a tray and mosey down the rail reviewing the line of hot dishes, taking what strikes your fancy. The flavour changes daily, but you will find all sorts of delights, including soups, salads, schnitzel, lasagna, meat pies, spaghetti, fresh-made sandwiches, and rotisserie-cooked chicken. When the weather is good, take your tray outside to also enjoy the spectacular scenery.
Famous for Turducken
What is a Turducken, you ask? Well, it is the epicurean equivalent of the Matryoshka, those little brightly-painted, portly, wooden Russian peasant women dolls that fit one inside another, inside another....But with this concoction there is a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey, all boneless, stuffed with sausage and bread dressing, and ready for baking. The conception originated in Louisiana, but it has taken the Rockies by storm. The Deli sells and ships Turducken all over the place as a special treat during the Yuletide. If your tastes run in a slightly different direction, you can also get a Turduckham, which, of course, is a ham inside a duck inside a turkey. Yummy!
