The Red Sea is a small diner style restaurant, with a few tables and chairs, and a few stools that tuck up beside wall-mounted counters. Diners can eat in the restaurant, or take the food out. The food is fresh and made to order by a chef who sports a cowboy hat while cooking. The decor is simple, with nautical memorabilia scattered around the walls, much of it said to be donated by a loyal following of customers. The water in the Red Sea (the one between Africa and Asia) is blue, and so are the walls in the Red Sea restaurant. Indeed, the stucco on the walls is scalloped to conjure up an image of waves. On each table there is a small bottle, replete with a message inside. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the food is wholesome, with generous portions on the plate, and the fries are made with real potatoes.
Four Choices Of Fish
The restaurant serves four different fish, and you order your preference. You can have Alaskan pollock, haddock, cod, or halibut. All of the fish is fried in a tasty thin batter, so you know you are eating more fish than batter. The East Coast Special features cod or haddock with gravy on the fries. The UK Special provides you with fish and chips and Hazel’s mushy peas – apparently named after a customer who introduced the English delicacy to the restaurant. Tartar sauce and cole slaw, both made in house, come with all orders.
Other Options Also Available
If you do not want just fish and chips, a homemade smoked seafood chowder is on the menu, either in a large or small bowl. Available side orders include extra pieces of fish, poutine, and mushy peas. There is also a Cajun Special which consists of blackened salmon, Cajun rice, and red beans.
