“Sally Ann” Thrift Stores
Most people are familiar with The Salvation Army’s thrift stores. These stores provide consignment clothing at affordable prices and the proceeds go to support other work of the organization. The Salvation Army follows the doctrines of Christian belief. It aims to advance the Christian religion through education, the relief of poverty and other charitable objectives that are beneficial to society or the community of mankind as a whole. In 1865, William Booth founded the movement and it has since spread from London, England to many parts of the world. In 1882, the Salvation Army came to Canada and is currently active in more than 100 countries.

Important Community Services
The Salvation Army provides a myriad of services, beyond their thrift stores. They provide disaster relief services – deploying resources at short notice, working to reduce physical harm and helping victims regain control of their lives. Their community and family services care for people at their crisis point, providing clothing, food, accommodation, life skills enhancement and counselling. They also host over 8,000 children, from disadvantaged homes, at their summer camps each year. The Salvation Army provides food and support services for the homeless. For those with addictions, they offer counselling, life skills and employment training. In addition, this organization provides support to victims of domestic abuse, palliative care, services for the mentally and physically challenged, corrections and justice services, corps and church services, suicide prevention, youth services and the Alberta Youth Band. The Salvation Army’s programs are life-changing and rely on charitable donations for support.
