Old Country Cooking
When you think of Italian food in the city, you probably picture an upscale restaurant where the waiters are formal and the wine is flowing. But that’s not always the way it is here. At Sandra Cucina Italiano, things are not quite as formal as you may fear. That being said, if anywhere is authentically Italian, this is it. A small, family-run establishment, they make everything themselves with fresh ingredients and recipes that have spanned lifetimes. They are located in the heart of Calgary’s Little Italy.
Breakfast by the Italians
There are not a lot of Italian restaurants in the city serving up breakfast, but this is one that does. The menu is not so much Italian between 7 am and 12 pm daily, but you can certainly order up a nice espresso or latte. The early morning menu here consists of basics like the eggs, hash browns, toast and bacon and French toast. There are a few omelettes to choose from including the meat lover’s. Everything is priced under $10.
Short and Sweet Menu
Open at 5pm for dinner, Sandra Cucina Italiano has a smallish menu, but what’s on it just may keep you coming back for more. Their specialty happens to be homemade penne with either meatballs or sausage, and it is served with garlic toast. They also make a fine little 6” pizza that will have your mouth watering before it hits your plate.
