Skew Gallery was established in 2004, and in its opening year received great critical praise. Its integration of business and arts was noticed and the forward-thinking work of represented artists also sparked immediate interest. The director’s combined resumes are an impressive chronicle of over 20 years of experience. They are Emily Barnett, who was significantly involved in art consultation and innovative approaches, and Bart Habermiller, who is a leading figure in Calgary’s art community as an accomplished curator and founder of the city’s original Art Rodeos.
Services
The gallery is a chic and modern all-white environment that contrasts and amplifies the bright or muted colors of its art. Skew showcases many individual and themed group exhibitions, as well as displaying the creations of guest artists. Services include art consultation with private clients and corporations, managing corporate art initiatives and worldwide shipping as well as art installation in Banff, Canmore and Invermere.
Artists
Artists of all strokes are featured in this gallery, and their mode of representation ranges from paintings, photography, installations and sculpture. While the art may be incredibly diverse, the common thread is a shared ambition and fresh new take on concepts and aesthetics. Some are at a national level, while others are mid-career, but their combined innovative attitudes characterize this gallery. Such artists include Diane Bos, Jason Bartziokas, Kim Dorland and Toni Hafkenscheid.
