For Business and Pleasure
In the heart of corporate Calgary, SoHo Bar and Grill performs double duty as a business drink spot by day and dance bar by night. Named after the trendy area in New York City, SoHo opened in 1999. Right from the start, a wildly popular Latin night saw the bar labeled as the place to go to salsa your heart out. Over time, the bar has expanded its appeal to include corporate types and club goers alike.
Dance the Night Away
Though it bills itself as a New York-style martini lounge, you’re just as likely to find two suits drinking coffee at three in the afternoon as you are a bunch of 20 somethings enjoying dinner on the patio before a night out. There’s a weekend dress code in effect to maintain the bar’s upscale feel. Saturday nights is their Latin night. From 5:00 p.m., come in your dancing shoes for Merengue, Cumbia, Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton and top 40 tunes. The bar also maintains a private lounge in the Plus 15, which features an exclusive non-smoking section and rooms for private parties.
Fuel for the Fire
No one cuisine dominates the menu at SoHo. Appetizers range from sushi to samosas with bar favourites like chicken wings thrown in for good measure. Mains feature selections from earth, sky and water – seared scallops, pizza, stroganoff foccacia and fresh-water catfish are some of the more unique items. The bar has about 12 beers on tap, including three in-house brews. There are also a number of different tequilas and a full martini menu.
