The Real Thing
You won’t find any westernized sushi here. And they serve Japanese food from all regions of Japan. There is a sushi bar and you can order a la carte if you please. Diners in a rush at lunch should call about their lunch box special which includes either tempura or the daily special. For evening dinners, if you aren’t in the mood for sushi, you can try something from a variety of teriyaki dishes, hot pots, noodles and plenty more.
Fresh Rolls
Sushi Hiro prides itself on authenticity, so expect new flavour experiences not found at your typical Western sushi restaurant. Try the negi hamachi roll, which comprises of yellowfin tuna and green onion. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the yamakake – finely grated Japanese yam served over tuna sashimi. For drinks, enjoy a wide selection of sake and other spirits from their bar.
Changing Ranks
During the day, this restaurant is home to the business crowd in downtown Calgary. Lunch times are tremendously popular here, and as such, the place is usually packed solid. If you are determined to have sushi here, make sure and give them some advanced warning that you are coming, or you likely won’t get in. Things tend to move a tad slower in the evening, as most of the crowds have dispersed from the core by that time of the day, but they still recommend that reservations be made.
