Profile Last Updated: September 04, 2008
Calgary's oldest professional theatre (founded in 1968), Theatre Calgary (TC) specializes in high-quality productions of classic to contemporary plays and musicals.
The Digs
Operating in the elegant, 750-seat Max Bell Theatre in Calgary's downtown Arts Centre, TC mounts a regular fall-to-spring season of six shows, plus its popular annual production of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."
The Plays
The company—once dominated by imported talent—has become a showcase for Calgary's own impressive pool of actors, directors and designers. The programming to date has swum in the mainstream, boasting revivals of "The Glass Menagerie," "Private Lives," "The Fantasticks" and other well-known works, along with such tried-and-true Canadiana as the "Wingfield Farm" series.
