When you talk to Calgarians about the hottest area to be downtown they’ll surely mention the stretch of 17th Ave S.W. between Macleod Trail and Crowchild Trail, known as the “Red Mile”. 17th Avenue became famous when fans from the nearby Saddledome, and all over the city, flooded the streets wearing the trademark red of Calgary’s beloved Calgary Flames during the 2004 Stanley Cup playoffs. Ever since the Red Mile has been Calgary’s unofficial party headquarters! The Mile supports some of Calgary’s coolest bars and clubs! Some of the favorites include: The Yardhouse, Ming, Tequila Nightclub, Ship and Anchor Pub, Melrose Café and Bar, Lucky’s Pub and Bar and the Mercury Lounge.
Get More than your Fill
If you’re looking to fill your stomach with more than just drinks, you don’t have to go far. 17th Avenue delivers quality, popular dinning, no matter what flavor satisfies your hunger! Perhaps something exotic from restaurants like the Noodle King, Ross Mediterranean Grill, Kyoto 17 or The East Indian Restaurant will spice up your evening. Of course when you’re in Calgary, steak’s always on the menu. Watchman’s Eatery, Van's Pizza and Steak House or Moxie’s will feed you the hearty, Alberta-style meal you crave. What would any restaurant listing be without a few Italian restaurants in the mix? The Chameleon Restaurant and Bar or Momma G’s will have you saying “magnifico” to 17th Avenue’s restaurant scene! If it’s your sweet tooth that has you walking the Red Mile, walk no further than The Chocolate Bar. You could always start your day or finish your meal with a coffee from the Second Cup.
Satisfy More than your Thirst and Hunger!
Fit in to the chic style of 17th after shopping at one of its many clothing and shoe stores. Then update your look at any of the beauty and hair salons! Try Misty Hair Design for women or Kam’s Hair for the guys. A few of the more trendy shops include: 100% Legit Inc, Aluminum Planet, Arnold Churgin Shoes, Cha Cha’s House of Hats or Divine. Finally end up at the Oasis Spa, inside the high-class Mount Royal Village, to beautify your skin with a facial and to massage those tired muscles!
