Uptown Sushi is an intimate space on the ground floor of a nondescript office building at the corner of 11 Street and 11 Avenue S.W. The dining room is painted in soft grey tones, there is lots of natural light from the large windows that face the street, and the furnishings are contemporary in styling. Patrons can seat themselves at one of several small tables, or can use stools at narrow wall-mounted counters. Step up to the counter, review the menu displayed above, and place your order. It will be served promptly by the friendly, efficient staff. Take out orders are also attended to, and sushi party trays are available.
An Extensive Menu
The sushi and sashimi menu is out of proportion to the diminutive size of the premises. Sushi combos are the most popular choice, varying from nine to fifteen pieces. Sashimi dishes are also served in different sizes, including a Beginners’ dish that has three pieces of tuna, two of salmon, and one of hokkigai. The sushi rolls and cones are locally famous, and include the California (crab and avocado), chopped scallop, ebi (cooked prawn with special sauce), unagi (barbequed eel), dynamite (deep fried prawn), spider roll (soft shell crab), and rainbow (tuna, salmon, ebi, and snapper), and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
And Not Just Sushi
In addition to sushi and sashimi, the restaurant serves a number of Udon Combo (noodle soup) dishes with a choice of barbeque pork, seafood, veggie, chicken, or beef. You can also get chicken or beef teriyaki; barbequed eel, tuna, or salmon on sushi rice; and wonderful yam tempura. Miso soup is offered to start any meal.
