Valbella’s started business almost twenty years ago in Canmore as a small sausage processing shop, making and selling sausages to local hotels and restaurants. Over time the operation expanded significantly, both in its physical plant and its variety of offerings, to become a major producer and supplier of all kinds of gourmet foods and specialty items to the food service industry in southern Alberta and beyond. All of the food products are made from Alberta grown livestock, and they contain no artificial additives, colours, or MSG. The products are produced daily and are sold wholesale to hotels and restaurants, as well as retail in the deli and café adjacent to the plant.
Product Offerings
The line of products made and sold by Valbella’s is very extensive. Meat products come from pork, beef, lamb, poultry, and game meats. The plant makes link sausages in dozens of flavours; smoked meat products like bacons, hams, pork chops and hocks; a large variety of pâtés; various beef and wild game jerkies; and even haggis. Two particular specialties are bundnerfleisch, which is thin-sliced, air-dried beef or bison, and a game platter that contains bison, venison pâté, smoked pepper duck, and venison salametti, all delivered on a wooden platter.
Deli and Café
The Valbella’s Deli and Café are adjacent to the plant. In the deli you can purchase any of the sausages and other meat products, as well as a selection of cheeses, pâtés, and fresh bakery goods. The cafe offers a variety of foodstuffs and coffees for your dining pleasure. The next time you are in Canmore, a visit to Valbella’s is recommended.
