Surrounded by Alberta’s Natural Wonders
Originally named “Emerald Lake” for its remarkable blue and green waters, Lake Louise was subsequently dubbed after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of the legendary Queen Victoria. It began simply as a remote one-storey log cabin meant to serve the needs of outdoor adventurers looking to explore Alberta’s mountain wilderness. Parts of the hotel’s current façade date back to 1911, and the building has been continually added to and improved since then, but always with a discerning eye and an appreciation for its original meaning. Still to this day some of the world’s best skiing, hiking, mountain-biking, fishing and more can literally be found just steps from the hotel doors, attracting everyone from royalty to Hollywood A-listers to this singular mountain get-away.

For those lucky enough to be staying at the Chateau, make sure you schedule in some time to simply wander the hotel’s gracious halls. Those without reservations are also welcome to enter and experience the walls lined with national and international artwork, the individually decorated rooms and several tasteful shops filled with unique items found locally. At least seven different restaurants and pubs satiate those of all tastes, including the Fairview Dining Room, which offers a casual atmosphere in pleasant surroundings, the Walliser Stube, which specializes in classic meat and cheese fondues, and the Lakeview Lounge, featuring a menu of soups, salads and sandwiches complimented by an extensive wine, liquor and cocktail list. Rest and Refresh All of the Chateau’s guestrooms are gracefully decorated with curved wood finishes and 19th century touches, and each commands an impressive view of the pristine surrounds. Choices of suites include the Belvedere Lakeview Room, perfect for entertaining, with a spacious living area and spiral staircase leading to a private balcony and quiet bedroom.
