It is located on the southern edge of the Peace River Country (part of the Peace Region or simply "The Peace," as it is locally known). The Peace encompasses much of northwestern Alberta and northeast British Columbia. The city of Grande Prairie is one of Canada's fastest growing cities and offers students high quality education.

The College
Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC), established in 1966, is the primary post-secondary institution in the city. The present college campus was built in 1974 and expanded later in the early 1990s. GPRC is a public community college in northwest Alberta, with its main campus in Grande Prairie and regional centres in Grande Cache, Hinton, Slave Lake and several communities in the Peace Region. GPRC is a public, board-governed community college and operates under the Alberta Colleges Act.
