Cochrane is no ghost town – as of a 2004 census, they boasted a population of 12,418. In 2007, the town revitalized the downtown core to give it an update, while keeping the small-town feel. Restaurants like Boston Pizza, Opa! and Pho Anh Huyen may not sound like the typical small town restaurants, but they’re there, along with a selection of other Japanese, Greek, Mexican and American restaurants.
Rural Fun in the Town
Whether you would like to take a fishing trip down the Bow River, take off towards the mountains, hit a cowboy trail or visit a ranch, Cochrane is the perfect place. The choice is up to you. The Cochrane Ranche is a historic site, offering guided tours with an educational slant. The mountains are only about an hour away. The 700 kilometre cowboy trail is packed with different sites, if you’re into that sort of thing. Hey, if you don’t feel up to it you can always just sit and whittle. Or you can try out the different shops and boutiques on the main street, which is affectionately called “Main Street” by the locals.
