Profile
Every year, on the last Sunday of May, one of Calgary's biggest street fairs kicks off the summer. The Lilac Festival has been voted " Calgary 's best free festival" by FFWD (Calgary 's News & Entertainment Weekly) readers for the last nine years running.
A parade starts the day (10 a.m.) and is followed by all sorts of live entertainment. It starts at 25 th Ave. along 4th Street to 13 th Ave. The parade route will be lined with more than 600 vendors including local artisans plying their wares. Bring the family down to enjoy an exciting Sunday morning in springtime!
There will be lots of local bands performing rock, country, jazz, folk, and world music onstage. Relax on a patio chair, a bench or even the curb and take in some of Calgary's hottest performers as they show off their talents throughout the day.
One of the best parts of the festival is noshing on the free or cheap food samples offered by some of Calgary's best restaurants located in the area.
So grab the kids (there will be a kids adventure zone), some sunscreen (or an umbrella) and head down to welcome in the summer.
